If our set departure dates do not work for you, or you would like to do something other than what is described on the multi-day page – then this is where you need to be looking.
All the trips below are for group bookings only, a minimum size of 5 adults.
We think this trip is one of the best things you could do for a long weekend. The river part of this trip starts at Dart Stream. The ‘getting there’ is a big part of this trip. There are two options – fly in by helicopter or a 4wd trip through Bluff Station. Whichever option you decide to take it definitely adds to the adventure. The helicopter trip starts from Clarence and over the Seaward Kaikoura range and down into the beginning of the gorge. The drive takes you on a spectacular trip through Bluff Station, a rare opportunity to see some amazing geology in one of New Zealand’s large stations. Please note that both these options are weather dependent.
This includes: Great food and wine, all meals prepared, qualified experienced guides, all personal on-boat gear, all tents and camping gear, dry bags and transport from our base at Clarence to the beginning of the trip at Dart Stream.
- 4WD through Bluff Station to the beginning of your trip at Dart Stream. This is an opportunity to see one of New Zealand’s high country stations. We used to do a short walk up Mead Stream to see the K-T boundary but the land shook and created multiple lakes up the Mead. There are plenty of new features to see along the way.
- Helicopter in and raft out. If you are short on time and looking for a big adventure this could be the option for you. Enjoy the stunning scenery of the Sawtooth Gorge, fly in with local helicopter company, Kaikoura Helicopters and paddle out.
4 Day trip
This is the same trip as the 5 day trip, same section of river – only difference is the time taken. The river can easily be run in 4 days if it is running high, but there is no way of predicting how much water will be in the river at any one time but spring time is usually higher. For this trip you need to be fit and prepared for early starts and plenty of paddling.
This is a short trip on the lower section of the river –almost like an introduction to rafting and camping. For more details go to the Half Day page.
Have a go at guiding a raft under the supervision of one of our guides. We can offer a training session prior to the trip if you are unsure of your skills. You can take this option on any of our trips – multi-day or half-day
Same trip, same equipment, same guides; but you supply the food and do the cooking. For group bookings only.
Longer, shorter or custom trips
If the river is high, it is possible to do a shorter trip – maybe you want the exercise and paddling is your thing.
Take 6 or more days, have a rest day in the middle, explore some of the side valleys, climb one of the peaks or explore Muzzle Station.
